Open Mainframe Computing
Based on Dual-Core Intel® Itanium® 2 processor technology, these unique open mainframe computers will reduce complexity, improve manageability, and cut costs by simplifying datacenter environments around a single platform. You will gain the flexibility to balance (and re-balance) processing memory, and I/O resources as needed to align with changing application demands. And with Amdahl roots, the PSI technology was developed with the understanding of the importance of delivering the highest levels of reliability, availability, and serviceability demanded by enterprise datacenters.
Through advanced virtualization technology, users will benefit with options for compatible support for traditional mainframe connectivity (ESCON, FICON, and OSA), and virtual connectivity to open standards-based devices.
PSI technology will also deliver a unique, web-based systems management console that provides systems programmers and operators a modern, yet familiar interface for managing system resources and for load balancing between logical partitions.
Investment Protection
These new PSI open systems will provide the highest level of investment protection in the industry. With the ability to concurrently run mainframe partitions along-side open systems partitions, you will be able to re-purpose your assets in response to changing business needs. If your strategy is to migrate mainframe applications to an open systems environment, you will not only be able to utilize capacity in the same box for the new workloads, but your former mainframe capacity will easily be converted to accommodate the new open systems applications! Furthermore, PSI’s virtual DASD will enable mainframe ECKD to be stored on FBA open system storage devices and will be completely transparent to your applications.
